Sex Lies and Advertising

The article "Sex Lies and Advertising" by Gloria Steinmen talks about the publishing industry. Basically advertisers are lying to the people, by transforming the image of things. Gloria decided to write an article in hopes to change the system. She wants the next generation running clean honest media. Gloria focuses mostly on womens magazines. She recieved responses from numerous groups of people for example writers, editors, executives, teachers of journalism, communications, and advertising. I chose the paragraph "Other penalties are increasing. As older readers will remember, women's magazines used to be a place where new young poets and short story writers could be published. Now, that's very rare. It isn't that advertisers of women's products dislike poetry or fiction, it's just that they pay to be adjacent to articles and features more directly compatible with their products." I think she makes a good point, and that our media is mostly lies to get our attention. I would rather see the next generation publish some honest real information for the media. Somehow i feel it will be very difficult, because it's already out there, and people are used to reading all the garbage.
