The Parable Of Democracy Goods
When i was reading "The parable of democracy goods" by Roland Marchand, i found it to be very interesting. There was a paragraph i came across that i felt somewhat summarized an important idea. "But the cumulative effect of the constant reminders that "any woman can" and "every home can afford" was to publicize an image of American society in which concentrated wealth at the top of a hierarchy of social classes resticted no family's opportunity to acquire the most significant products". There basically saying here that everyone is on a different level, a different social class. Everyone has different income and can't afford the same things. Some people buy the expensive products, and others buy the store brand which is just plain cheaper. These class differences ended around the 1950's. This was because of equalities suggested by shared consumption patterns and our lifestyles.
